Float Therapy

We live in a busy world that produces many different stimuli and stressors, physically and emotionally. Floating in a sensory deprivation float tank allows your body and mind to let go, weightlessly in silence. You are suspended in 10 inches of 94 degree water, which is the same as your skin temperature. The only physical sensation is the surface tension of the water which contains 850 pounds of diluted Epsom salt, allowing a body of any size to be completely buoyant. As you float, light (and heat, in two of our float tanks) can be controlled by pressing buttons located inside the tank. For those who have concerns about claustrophobia the door to the tank can be left open as well as the light left on. The main goal is to allow yourself to relax completely, letting go of mental and physical stress, and experience a deeper state of consciousness.

Physical Benefits of Floating

Floating relieves stress, improves sleep, helps with anxiety, depression, PTSD, recovery from athletic events/injuries, diminishes pain, among many other proven benefits. The Epsom salts dissolved in the water are great for softening your skin, help purge toxins from the body, improve circulation, and regulate electrolyte levels.

Spiritual Benefits of Floating

Floating is the "off switch to the world". The sensation of complete weightlessness and lack of stimuli allow mood enhancing chemicals like dopamine, serotonin and endorphins to be released.  Through this absence of stimuli you mind is able to drift into a meditative state allowing the production of Theta brain waves, which are produced through deep meditation and just before sleep

While floating, there will be nothing to distract you, allowing your mind to fully concentrate and absorb knowledge on a newfound level. Studies have shown increased focus, comprehension and learning through relaxing meditative aspects of float therapy

Dry Sauna

Come enjoy the heat benefits of the three person traditional dry sauna. When booking our sauna, you can enjoy a session by yourself or with up to three friends/family members, for just $13 per person for a half hour session, with a towel included. When scheduling, each sauna is booked privately to you, but if have someone joining you, please mention that in an appointment note.

By reaching temperatures of 175 degrees, our steam sauna can detoxify your body and boost your overall wellbeing.  Sauna use has been shown to decrease risk of Alzheimer's disease and reduce all-cause mortality, meaning reduction of all causes of death from illnesses such as cancer and cardiovascular disease.

Studies have shown sauna to be very effective after exercising to help boost performance and help heal tissues after a workout, as heat stress helps improve blood flow throughout the circulatory system.

Sauna use can:

  • Increase endurance

  • Improve sleep

  • Increase brain function

  • Decrease risk of Alzheimer’s disease

  • Detoxify your system by sweating out toxins

  • Loosen achy muscles and joints

Cold Bath

Located in the same room as the dry sauna, this service can be booked alone or in conjunction with the sauna for the hot/cold contrast therapy which has been shown to be beneficial to our health, improving athletic performance as well as overall wellbeing.

Alone the cold bath benefits include:

  • Ease sore muscles

  • Decrease inflammation

  • Better sleep/Less fatigue

 

Infrared Sauna

 

This two person infrared sauna heats your body through infrared light. The cost is $20 per person for a 45 minute session. When scheduling, each sauna is booked privately to you, but if have someone joining you, please mention that in an appointment note.

Infrared sauna has many of the same benefits as listed above with the dry sauna, but does so a a lower temperature which may be more tolerable for some. Additionally infrared sauna has been found to help improve heart health, chronic pain and fatigue, soothe sore muscles, relaxation, improve sleep and fight off illness. Studies have also found infrared sauna to improved collagen production and hair growth.

Yoga and Mat Pilates

Mary Pogge joins the Iowa Recover Room with nearly 20 years of Pilates training, 6 years of yoga teaching, and over 50 years of yoga experience. She teaches all levels and abilities with a great respect for yogic philosophy.

Mary offers yoga and mat Pilates classes at the Iowa Recovery Room. These classes are currently available online via Zoom, with in-person classes to come! Single classes and packages can be purchased through our online Store.

We also offer weekly ‘Yoga from the Cloud’ classes that are recorded and sent to you so you can do the class as many times as you would like throughout the week, whenever you’d like. We offer both 30 and 60 minute class options, so you can choose a length that works best for you, or both. These classes can be purchased on our website store and used whenever you’re ready to use them.
